The secret to smooth feet. The answer is bananas. No, really.

Some things are better left unsaid, and sharing the current state of my feet is probably no exception. Let’s just say moving to a desert climate really did a number on my heels. While you probably don’t want to hear it – and if you are in the middle of eating lunch while reading this, I’m so sorry – but my feet are practically screaming for some hydration. You get the picture.

I love a good foot mask, my favorite being the Holler and Glow Purrfect Pedi Foot Mask, which always leaves my feet looking and feeling so soft. But after browsing the internet the other day, as I often do, I came across some natural remedies for dry, dehydrated heels that completely shook me. Did you know, according to Healthline, that bananas help soothe dry feet? In fact, the antioxidants and antimicrobial properties in the banana’s peel can help treat acne scars, psoriasis, dull skin, warts, dehydrated skin, puffiness, dry hair, gum disease, sunburn, poison ivy, and headaches. Bananas can even polish and brighten leather shoes and silverware (??!?).

At this point, I’m convinced there’s nothing bananas can’t do.

Because they are packed full of amino acids and vitamins A, B, C, and E (which all work wonders for dry, itchy skin), banana peels are a great tool for moisturizing the feet and little toesies.

All you have to do is rub the banana peel on your feet. That’s literally it. While it may feel primitive and awkward, it seems to have amazing benefits and is backed by lots of research. You can even add a little honey to the mix for even more hydration, as honey is a known natural remedy for cracked heels.

It’s advised that you rinse the banana goop (ew) off with lukewarm water, apply body lotion to your feet, and put on dry, clean socks. It probably won’t cure dry, cracked heels for good, but it’s a beneficial natural remedy that’s worth trying! 🍌
