The fall season is a major fan favorite. Feeling the crisp chill in the autumn air, watching the leaves delicately change from green to orange, indulging in a sweet, hot beverage, the sound of NFL football while your partner and dad yell at the TV in the distance … ahhh. These are just a few aspects of the fall season that many enjoy (myself included).
In fact, a 2020 poll shared by People indicates that over half of Americans say they’re the happiest and experience the most contentment during the fall. Perhaps one of the comfiest feelings during the fall season is snuggling on the couch with the seasonal scent of pumpkin, cinnamon, apple, or vanilla lingering in the air. Ugh, I feel this in my soul.
Before you take a trip to your nearest Target to pick up some air fresheners and candles, head to your kitchen and try the trending simmer pot method instead.
Wait — what is a simmer pot, you may ask?
Have you ever entered your grandmother’s house and were greeted by the delicious smell of some homemade pastry? It’s kind of like that. A simmer pot, also known as stove top potpourri, is essentially a combination of fragranced foods and seasonings added to a pot of water.
By bringing the water to a boil and then immediately reducing it to a lower heat, the fragranced water will begin to evaporate and scent your home. Due to its all-natural ingredients, the smell is lively, vibrant, and well … natural! The best part? Depending on the products you simmer in the pot, this stovetop potpourri can last up to four days.
This is my favorite simmer pot recipe that you have to try. It’s called … wait for it ... pumpkin spice. Are we surprised?
— 4 tbsp apple cider
— Pumpkin spice seasoning (generous sprinkle, of course)
— Cinnamon sticks
— Ground nutmeg
— Vanilla extract
— Whole cloves
Combine all of the above in a pot of water, bring to a boil, and wait for the magic to begin. It won’t be long before every room in your home is coated with the sweet smell of a basic bi***. Enjoy!
