What in the world is Barbiecore and why am I so excited about it?

On Wednesdays we wear pink. And Tuesdays. And Fridays ... ok, and Saturdays too. Thanks to the growing Barbiecore trend, living in pink (the brighter, the better) is not only acceptable but highly encouraged.

Is it just in my head, or are the heavens singing?

“All your faves are currently having a pink moment, and I’m not mad about it… this color ignites my soul,” declared fashion and beauty influencer Victoria Lyn on TikTok, referencing photos of Ariana Grande, Hailey Bieber, and Lizzo all wearing pink.

If you’ve been noticing a whole lot of neon rose-colored pigments all over social media, you may be asking yourself: Did I accidentally slip into a Barbie multiverse, or what is going on here?

The answer is no, you have discovered the new viral trend that is Barbiecore.

Barbiecore, in a nutshell, is everything PINK – and sometimes other bright, happy colors — but mostly pink. Typically seen in fashion but bleeding into other avenues of personal expression like home décor, Barbiecore is the hottest esthetic of the summer.

There are several different reports explaining where Barbiecore originated. Some, like People Magazine, say it began back in 1959 when Mattel released its first Barbie. Others, like Buzzfeed, indicate that the trend is on the rise due to viral photos of Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling sporting neon Barbie-esque fashion during the filming of Greta Gerwig’s upcoming Barbie movie set to release in 2023.

While I’m inclined to agree with the latter, there is one thing I know for sure: My girly girl, life-size brunette Barbie self thinks Barbiecore is the best thing to ever happen to viral trends.

Here are some of my absolute favorite Barbiecore fits 💕🌸🎀💖🦄👛
